Photography Boot Camp – December 8, 2013

Over the weekend, Johnny and I took a four-hour newbie photography boot camp. We took the class to better understand our cameras and bring out our creative sides. Before attending our boot camp, our sources all came from the World Wide Web and watching YouTube videos, which only brought more confusion. After all, asking Google, can only get you so far. We needed more solid, concrete advice or answers from a knowledgeable fellow.

Now I am not saying taking the photo boot camp is going to solve all of our issues and everything will be hunky-dory. It did, however, give us a solid platform to launch our creative projects. There was plenty of terminology to pick up, as well as demonstrations to teach creativity and understand composition. The instructor showed us several pictures he had done himself showing depths of field, lighting, angles, and most importantly, patience. It’s not just pointing and shooting pictures, but taking PHOTOS. Anybody can just take a picture, but a photographer learns the basics to be able to get creative with his/her subject(s).

“Practice, practice, and more practice” is the message we got out of the class. Don’t be afraid to make a mistake, but instead, learn from it. Take a picture, look through the setting and understand where you went wrong and adjust accordingly for your next shot. Sure this class is only the beginning, but at least we now, we have an idea of where to start. The boot camp has given us several great ideas for our next ride. Hopefully, you will notice an improvement in our techniques and be able to see how easily our thoughts and ideas can be conveyed through our videos and photos.
