Update 7: Trans-Europe 2015 – Itinerary Reset

Cable Stops

Cable stops installed with cable wire splitters.

Change is part of life as you know. It is certainly not any different when it comes to planning for a bicycle tour. Especially one that involves traveling across Europe. As it turns out we are going to need to postpone our trip by a month. Instead of a mid-March departure, we will be leaving to Madrid April 7th and coming back at June 30th. Luckily the tickets were insured so the refund was possible so that the new flights are now booked.

The setback is actually really good in terms of weather and accommodations. Spring will be in full swing at April and camping sites will mostly be open by then. I was worried before since we may have been forced to look for other accommodations as most campsites don’t open until April or after Easter. By the time we end, we may find ourselves missing the busy travel season in Europe. That means fewer people to compete with for campsites.

Instead of stopping at London for a layover, we’ll be in Moscow, Russia for 3 hours. Does that mean I can mark Russia off as a place that I’ve been once I get there?

As far as planning goes, nothing really changes except that I am now adjusting my day-to-day itinerary to match up with our new dates. Here are the locations and dates as of last week.

Gear Preparation

Cable stops

Only thing to mention is that I finally got cable stops installed on my Salsa Vaya so that I can use the rear brakes. Worked like a charm! Only thing left now is getting the leather handlebar tape and installing the new Schwalbe Marathons on the wheels. The bike rides exactly the same as it did before the operation.  I’m looking forward to taking it out on some rides in March.
