Update 3: Trans-Europe 2015 – 7 Weeks Away

Cycling the Eurovelo 6 Guide Book

Harry and I did not meet this week but it didn’t mean nothing was done. He is trying to figure out accommodations and car rental possibilities from Madrid. The original plan was to take the car in for a one way rental into Biarritz, France from Madrid. Instead, we are going to go to San Sebastian instead after a quick stay over at Rioja to enjoy some wine. The cost of going straight to Biarritz by rental was too expensive. We will attempt to start our bicycling journey at San Sebastian and ride along the coast up to Bordeaux. The rental car has been booked.

Baseline Done

I plotted all the notes and cities that James Chassee traveled through from Tours, France to Constandt, Romania. Harry also sent me 3 volumes of the Cycling the EuroVelo 6 Volume 1-3. These cover the entire EuroVelo 6 from France to Romania. A great wealth of information which includes routes, food options, camping options with prices, and details that we couldn’t find anywhere on the Internet or off. Not a bad resource for only £12.00. I’ll be spending some time pouring over these 3 guidebooks and plot out our day by day while adhering to a 50 mile per day guide.

Tips from Matt

I also got in touch with Matt Krog who had also done a EuroVelo 6 tour 2012. He had given me a few tips about his trip that was useful.

  • Use Google to search locally for campsites by searching “camping”
  • Budget per day €20-30 – Eating and camping with plenty of couch surfing / warm showers hosts
  • €10-20 for campsites
  • Hostels were €25-30

Shopping

I started to make a list of things I need to pick up before the trip.

  1. Inflatable pillow
  2. 1 person tent or bivvy sack
  3. A set of Schwalbe Marathon tires
  4. 2 dehydrated meals for emergency
  5. Dr. Brommers soap

I see a REI visit in the future!
