09 Oct The Ride That Started It All
Getting ready for my first bicycle tour.
The beginnings of my riding adventures started with a tour I did in 2009 up to Cachuma Lake near Santa Barbara, CA. Thinking back, that was an incredibly daring adventure especially considering that I only met my companion, Jeremy Grant, a few months prior on social rides. We had long miles the first day which came close to the 100 mile mark and I even did my first (and only so far) stealth camping experience. I was humbled by the second and third day when we climbed into and out of the Santa Ynez valley. I can’t say rode the entire time but was glad I made it alive and in one piece. The last day was also very deceiving as we rolled into Santa Monica, I remember having a mental lapse in thinking that our destination was there. I did not account for the last 30 miles ride back to my home in Burbank. Even with a proper lunch burritos, I completely ran out of gas and bonked riding up my street.

Little did I know that this was just the beginning of my climbs.

That trip was so amazing that we had to do it again last month. Sang Hyun and I decided to do the same trip as he was not part of the last one. This trip would keep him at par with all the bike tours I’ve ever been on so it was a good milestone ride for him. Complete details of this last trip is coming. Check back in a few days.
